There is no ending of transfer rumors though, I must admit, we are rapidly approaching the bottom of the barrel. Today’s helping from the rumor mongers is, well, I don’t know what it is.

Essentially, reports out of Spain indicate that there is interest on Liverpool’s part to sign French U21 and Stade Rennais star Eduardo Camavinga. (Manchester United are also rumored to be interested.) Camavinga is a French national that plies his trade in the center of the park, playing the defensive midfield role and slightly just ahead of that space in a more robust center midfield role.

Camavinga has 25 appearances this season in Ligue 1. He’s also nabbed 1 goal and 2 assists during his time on the pitch. In fact, Camavinga is noted in the report as having been dubbed a potential heir to Paul Pogba in the French set up.

I’m genuinely unsure what this means, given there are reports of Liverpool not only being interested but saying that Liverpool have already initiated contact with the player’s reps. More, it doesn’t quite fit in the overall sense of squad construction given the likely departures have been mooted with replacements of the level of Kai Havertz and potentially the recalling/return of on-loan players like Marko Grujic or Harry Wilson.

All told, the tidbit about Liverpool having made contact seems like it might be the reason for taking this news with a lot of skepticism: following the initial failure over Virgil Van Dijk’s transfer from Southampton, Liverpool have basically been able to keep all news of signings off of the radar. Having news filter out of Liverpool’s involvement from the off seems to be a bit dodgy.
