Liverpool: Mané 77’

Pre-Match

Welcome back! Did you miss us? Liverpool travel out to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City. Mané still isn’t quite for the start, so it’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain completing the front three.

First Half

We’ll see how much the weather is a factor here as Liverpool look to still knock the ball around in their usual, fluid style despite the heavy wind. The first 10 minutes or so seem to be setting the tone for the rest of the match. Liverpool have control of the ball, while Norwich City look make something happen on the break. The wind is making it difficult to pull off the necessary long, searching passes to get their attackers free down the pitch.

Firmino is going Full Mad Bobby in the first half, executing some no-look passes and impressive wizardry inside of Norwich’s box. So far it hasn’t resulted in a goal, but it sure has been pretty.

Alisson makes a huge rescue, palming the ball away before Pukki could tap it home. That probably should have been the first goal of the game, but somehow Alisson got the better of the exchange.

Trent Alexander-Arnold sets up the first corner of the game in the 37th minute, and the corner flags are billowing in the wind, reminding those watching just how much the weather is affecting the flow of the game.

The first half ends goalless with the closest call being from Norwich City when Alisson was forced to intervene.

Second Half

The second half kicks off at Carrow Road with no changes to either team.

Keita gets a good strike in around the 57 minute mark, but Tim Krul bats it away for a corner. Then van Dijk sends a tame header into Krul’s hands. Things get dicier for Norwich City as Salah makes a cheeky turn in the box with the ball and gets a shot off. It’s saved, and the rebound lands at Keita’s feet, but Krul makes an instinctive save with his hand that somehow keeps it out of the net.

After that is a double substitution for Klopp, with Fabinho and Mané replacing Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wijnaldum on the 60 minute mark.

The Reds are pushing for that all-important goal, earning a few more corners out of their attacks, but nothing is dropping in the net.

Oof, Alexander Tettey slams a shot into the near post, and now it’s Norwich City who have the corner. This wasn’t the return that Liverpool fans were hoping for. In the final 20 minutes, Norwich City seem like the team more likely to score.

GOALLLLL!!! 77’ - Mané - Finally, finally Liverpool break the deadlock. Henderson sends an excellent ball to Mané, who fights for control of it and slots it home.

Alexander-Arnold nearly engineers a second, but Firmino flashes it wide of the goal.

In the 88th minute, Pukki gets free, but his shot goes right into the waiting arms of Alisson Becker.

Final Thoughts

Took a while for Liverpool to shake the rust off, but it was no surprise that Mané was the one to save them in the end.
