Liverpool are set to finally move their training ground from Melwood to Kirkby this week. The Reds were set to make the move following the completion of the 2019-20 season, but delays obviously happened because of the ongoing global pandemic. The wait is over and the team is training one last time at Melwood today ahead of their match against Manchester City. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave the training ground a farewell.
“Mixed emotions, really mixed emotions.” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com. “I am happy about going to Kirkby and very sad about leaving Melwood, to be honest.”
“So, it’s strange; I didn’t think properly about it so far, but my PA is obviously already moving all my stuff out of my office so I realised step-by-step that the place already looks different.”
“I will miss it, but that’s how it should be.” He continued. “Melwood was really good, it was important – an important place in my life, so I will miss it.”
“But Kirkby will be great.”
It’s been previously reported at length what Liverpool have invested in the new training ground. They traveled the world to study other team’s training grounds, including Red Bull Salzburg.
