Rhian Brewster’s need for playing time to continue his development as one of the most highly rated players in Liverpool’s youth system is high. Klopp has rotated some as necessary during most of this season but due to various reasons, the youngster has not seen much of the pitch during this festive season.

Through all of this time, much speculation around Brewster’s future has swirled around. Namely, that he would be headed out on loan during the winter window in search of more time on the pitch. While that may yet happen, Jurgen Klopp confirmed during his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup tilt against Everton that Rhian Brewster would indeed be in the squad.

It is not surprising given that Liverpool will be playing about 48 hours after their Premier League victory over Sheffield United and rotation will most certainly be in the offing. Seeing Brewster be named into a squad with significant turnover across the pitch was always going to be a high possibility.

And it certainly doesn’t preclude a future loan move for the young man. There is still time to make such a move happen for one of the brightest talents in the academy.

An interesting tidbit that did come out regarding Rhian in the presser, though, is a bit of an explainer as to why we haven’t seen him involved in the match day squads around the festive season. According to Jurgen, Brewster was unavailable to train due to some injury or illness but that the youngster is now fully fit and able to participate in training. This at least provides some context for those of us wondering at the lack of young Rhian in the side.

Regardless, look to see Brewster involved in some capacity tomorrow. Here’s hoping he nabs a goal to kick off the new year in a good way.
