On Wednesday, James Milner heads back to Manchester to celebrate the career of his former teammate, Vincent Kompany. Milner played almost 150 games with City before moving to Liverpool on a free transfer.
While his move, when it happened, was uncontroversial, Liverpool’s current role as Manchester City’s chief antagonist will make his return a more raucous occasion than it may have been otherwise.
Milly will be the other current Red on the roster, but not the only player with Liverpool ties. Other players making the trip are Mario Balotelli, Kolo Toure, Craig Bellamy, and Didi Hamann, so if nothing else, Milner will have some entertaining company.
After the brief interlude for that match, Milner will return to training at Melwood as his teammates so trickle back to Merseyside from their national team obligations. These testimonials are always entertaining, even if they’re played at half-speed, and this one will have a fun cast of characters. That being said, if James Milner gets injured, we riot.
