Jürgen Klopp Finally Speaks On Liverpool Starlet’s Future

It is well-established at this point that Liverpool youth academy starlet, Harry Wilson has a proclivity for bangers.

However, the youngster otherwise hasn’t exactly blown the bloody doors off in a make-or-break preseason, with instead the likes of emerging wonderkid Rhian Brewster and interestingly, even new arrival Harvey Elliot stealing the headlines.

With preseason now over and a number of mid-tier Premier League clubs rumored to be making inquiries into the 22-year-old’s availability as the end of the English transfer window looms, every comment made by the manager and the club on the player’s future is being scrutinized for any new insight.

Wilson Remain supporters will therefore be disappointed by noncommittal remarks from Klopp when he was recently asked about an update on the youngster’s status in the squad:

“We are in constant conversations, that’s clear,” the 52-year-old hedged. “[But] we have to do the right thing for us and for the boy.

“There is nothing to talk about in public about it, so we will see what happens in the next eight or nine days until the window closes.

“He is obviously a really good player and I was really happy with him in the whole preseason.

“He played not in his best position, he played left wing and did it really well,” Klopp continued. We tried to set it up a little bit so it is more comfortable for him with positioning and stuff like that.”

Wilson is clearly a talent, as he displayed on loan last season with Derby County under now-Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard. And yet, as our analysis at TLO points out, it isn’t clear whether the Wrexham-born player brings anything to table that the squad doesn’t already possess.

Wolves and Aston Villa have been linked while Bournemouth are claimed to be “waiting in the wings” to sign the youngster according to The Daily Mail’s Dominic King. The Cherries in particular seem to be firmly under Michael Edwards’ spell, having forked out a stunning £40m for Liverpool’s fringe players in recent years, including the likes of Dominic Solanke, Jordan Ibe and Brad Smith.

It would therefore seem that a betting person would put their money on Eddie Howe swooping in to meet the Reds’ rumored £25m valuation and rescuing the long-time academy player from his first team purgatory.
