Preseason hasn’t been going well for Liverpool so far, with a slew of injuries hitting the squad, dealing with horrendous temperatures, and our most important players (our front three and illustrious goalkeeper) all on holiday following their respective Summer tournaments. While a couple of things are, hopefully, set to change, the jury is still out on whether it will have a positive impact on Sunday’s match against Champions League members Napoli.

You’ll remember (fondly, hopefully), that Liverpool just barely got past Napoli during the group stages of last year’s historic Champions League run. While they didn’t go easy on us in either leg, it was the home leg that thankfully saw us through to the knock out stages. This time we’re in neutral territory of Edinburgh, Scotland and things should hopefully go a little better for us than the last time we played them away from Anfield. We’re still awaiting the arrival of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Alisson Becker from their holidays, we have nearly a full squad to play — at least those that hadn’t been injured in the United States.

Thankfully, this is simply a preseason friendly and not a super important Champions League group stage fixture, so pressure is a little lower this time and the bar even more so. Let’s just have some fun and enjoy the magical city that is Edinburgh.
