Liverpool are heading into this transfer window without any major needs having just completed a Premier League campaign with 97 points and having just lifted the European Cup for the sixth time. But, they are in a position of strength and could obviously add talent if the right situation comes up.

One name that’s been loosely linked with Liverpool for a while now has been Nicolas Pépé. Pépé is a right winger that plays for Lille in Ligue 1. He’s played well for Lille for a while, but had a bit of a breakout season in 2018/19 having scored 22 goals and assisted 11 goals. Lille finished a distant second in the league behind PSG. Pépé has also featured eleven times for the Ivory Coast national team.

This morning, well connected RMC’s Mohamed Bouhafsi sent out some interesting tweets about the apparent negations between Liverpool and the winger. If that journalist’s name sounds familiar to you, it’s because he’s the one who initially broke the Fabinho to Liverpool news last summer.

There were certainly moments last season where Liverpool lacked a decent 4th option in the front 3, and Pépé certainly has all the talent to be a great option for the Reds. However, as we saw last summer with Nabil Fekir, Liverpool aren’t afraid to walk away from a deal if it’s not right for them.
