Rumour Mongering: Barcelona Offer Dembele to Liverpool

The winger is supposedly being shopped for £90M but you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up.

Liverpool were linked with Ousmane Dembele while he was at Rennes but the winger ended up at Borussia Dortmund. They were linked with him at Dortmund shortly before he joined Barcelona. And since joining Barcelona, they’ve been linked with him regularly.

It’s no surprise, then, that Liverpool are being linked with him again, with Barcelona now said to be looking to fund their summer transfer business by recouping at least most of his initial purchase price and Liverpool having supposedly been made aware of it.

Or at least that’s what TeamTalk are saying today, claiming that with Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie De Jong arriving at the Catalan giants this summer Dembele has been told he will be sold if a club is willing to pay £90M and he can agree to personal terms.

As a result, the 22-year-old’s representatives are said to have reached out to his preferred destinations—a list that includes Liverpool—and while a £90M spend wasn’t in the plans for this summer, given how highly rated Dembele is funds could be found.

Given the source and the lengthy list of ifs and maybes propping up the rumour, it’s likely there’s nothing more going on than an outlet seeing Barca making a few big signings and linking Dembele to the club he’s linked to—ie., they’re making shit up.

Still, in the unlikely event Dembele were to be made available and actually wanted to join Liverpool this time, he might just be the kind of target of opportunity the club would be willing to make an expensive exception to their summer transfer plans for.
