We’ve had a bit of time to let the bittersweet end to this Premier League race sink in. Sure, we broke records, individual players covered themselves in glory, and this team is the most likable and delightful group we’ve seen in several years, but Manchester City still sealed their title with a 4-1 victory over Brighton.

The final game at Anfield was beautiful, but Gini Wijnaldum took to social media right after the game to remind fans that while everyone is feeling the pain of coming second this season, there’s one game left to go:

“We wanted nothing more than to deliver the long awaited title to this beautiful club and our incredible fans,” the midfielder wrote on Instagram. “It hurts so much right now that we couldn’t accomplish it this season.

”We fought as hard as we could and can be proud of the way we played as a team and the amount of points we gained. It’s devastating that we came up just short.

“
A massive thank you to my teammates, coaches, staff, and all our supporters. We will be back and fight as hard as ever for the title next season!

”But first we have one game left to play in Madrid!”

On to Madrid, and hopefully another unforgettable brace from the Dutchman to finish this season off.
