Liverpool U23 goalkeeper, Shamal George, was injured in an attack outside the Red Door bar in Liverpool city centre on Saturday night. George and his brother were both assaulted in what some reports are describing as an alleged racist incident. Both men suffered cuts to the face and required hospital treatment.
Shamal tweeted his appreciation for his fans and well-wishers on Sunday.
Your support means everything. Thank you♥️ #LFC

The Merseyside Police has appealed for information relating to the investigation and will be reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
The club have expressed their shock at the incident.
“As a club, we will offer Shamal and his family any support that they require,” a club spokesperson said. “The matter is now in the hands of Merseyside Police, and we will defer all enquiries to them. We would also urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward.”
