Liverpool desperately need to keep pace with Manchester City at this stage of the season, while hoping that the leaders drop points at some stage. With Guardiola’s side dispatching Watford yesterday, the Reds would have to get a tricky job done against Sean Dyche’s Burnley, who are nervously looking over their shoulders near the relegation zone.
Things got off to a terrible start for the hosts, with Burnley scoring from a corner in the opening minutes of the match after Alisson was arguably unfairly held down. This seemed to flip a switch for Liverpool, who turned on the jets and the style, putting two past the visitors’ keeper in the first half, and another in the second, with Adam Lallana turning back the clock with his performance.
Burnley were able to get one back in the dying minutes of the match, turning up the pressure on Liverpool for mere moments, before Sadio restored the two goal advantage just before the final whistle. For Klopp’s side it was mission accomplished, and it will fall to Manchester City next to hold serve.
