Liverpool close out 2019 with a big fixture against Nuno Espírito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. It will be the third fixture in eight days for Jurgen Klopp’s men, including a trip to Qatar for the Club World Cup.

In fact, during this fixture crunch, the Reds have included trips to the continent and to Asia, collecting a trophy, advancing in the Champions League, and dispatching their cross-town rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby. It’s a heavy, heavy load and even with three days between Boxing Day and their match against Wolves, the legs on the squad must be feeling rather heavy at the moment.

During his pre-match press conference Jurgen Klopp intimated as much, calling on the Kop to provide some lift and energy to tired legs.

“Now we play three games in a row at home and one of them is in the cup, and I can tell already we need massive help from the crowd – massive – because the period is so intense and we need to use each source we can use for these games. Hopefully our people are rested enough to be at their absolute best because that’s exactly what we need.”

Hear that, Kopites? The gaffer is turning to you for help and inspiration to bear the lads through this last stretch of matches before we get a full week’s break between tilts again. It is a lift that is necessary given the miles and competitions crossed by the squad. And it is the type of lift that only the Kop can provide.
