Liverpool didn’t just come away from Qatar with a trophy, they headed back to Merseyside with the right to put that sweet, golden badge on their kits. But because this is world football and nothing is ever simple, there are certain restrictions.
The biggest one is that right now, Liverpool will not be allowed to wear it during Premier League or FA Cup games. The problem is that, according to the Echo, the Premier League requires a formal application for changes in kits. The club are hoping that the league will allow their request.
However, UEFA allows them to wear it, so they’ll definitely take the field against Atletico Madrid in their new bling.
According to a FIFA spokesperson, “As per the usage guidelines, the winning team can wear the FIFA World Champions Badge from the day it becomes champions up to and including the final of the next edition of the tournament.”
That means that Liverpool will get to sport their badges until December 2020, or a full calendar year.
