Another Champions League matchday complete, another Liverpool player on the shortlist for the Goal of the Week. I’m sorry, I misspoke. It was another player who was nominated on Matchday 2, Sadio Mane. The last two matchdays featured strikes from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The last gem against Genk didn’t manage to win, but hopefully this week’s gem will do better. The goal in question was Liverpool’s second and eventual match winner. Salah laid it off to Ox just inside the box, and the English midfielder turned and fired a low shot with his weaker left foot into the bottom corner. It’s not quite as spectacular as his outside the boot effort in the match prior, but it was more important, ultimately.

However, Ox will be up against some stiff competition. Douglas Costa and Raheem Sterling each finished nearly identical, albeit well-worked, team goals inside the box.

Those were nice, but the real competition is probably Geoffrey Kondogbia’s venomous left-footed effort from more than 30 yards out for Valencia. That one was hit and stayed hit.

Anyway, you can see all the goals and vote for the winner here.
