Jürgen Klopp has been nominated for the Sports Journalists’ Association’s UK Great Coaching Moment of the Year award. This award focuses on one extraordinary result in a game that showcases a manager’s talent for bringing out the best in his or her players.
The game that Klopp is being honored for is Liverpool’s awe-inspiring 4-0 comeback against Barcelona at Anfield to advance to the Champions League final. The Reds had, of course, trailed Barcelona by three goals after a terrible result in Spain, so four goals and a clean sheet was the very least they had to do to make it through.
If you’re reading this, you already know how that game turned out, and it’s no surprise that this heart-pounding game was chosen for this award.
Other managers in contention to win are Gareth Southgate, John Blackie and Melanie Marshall.
The winner will be revealed at the UK Coaching Awards in London on December 5th, the day after this season’s first Merseyside derby.
