Well, that happened. Liverpool managed to jump out in front early and, really, never looked back. It wasn’t merely a comprehensive performance, it felt like absolute domination. Over the Premier League title winners and most expensive squad, Manchester City.
And with a performance as complete and total, there are superlatives to be handed all around. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both got back to scoring ways. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson continued to be the source of of brilliance in terms of attacking moves. Alisson Becker came up big when called upon. And Fabinho lead a midfield that managed to frustrate City just enough while individually contributing one of the best strikes we’ve seen all season.
As it stands, Liverpool are now the owners of a 9 point advantage against City, and 8 points ahead of new number 2s, Leicester City and Chelsea. To make things even better for the Reds, there is only one more match left between the two. This is a big, big result in terms of the title race and Liverpool fans the world over can head into the international break on an absolute high.
Now let us know how you saw it. With our usual polling tool out of service, we’re instead giving you a choice between a few of the players we thought looked best today for the Reds, so make your choice below and vote for who you think should be the man of the match—or take to the comments to let us know that we got it wrong by leaving the real man of the match off the list entirely.
And as always, anyone visiting on Apple News or Google AMP who wish to vote and can’t see the poll can make it visible by navigating to the front page of The Liverpool Offside and re-entering the story.
