The (probably) most exciting day for me during this vacuum of preseason between the end of the World Cup and the start of the regular season has finally come! Captain Jordan Henderson has returned from England national team duty and vacation and has rejoined training at Melwood in preparation for the new season, alongside Simon Mignolet.
That now only leaves Dejan Lovren to return to the squad, but considering he got the furthest out of anyone this summer, he deserves the extended vacation. Mignolet, of course, probably could’ve come back sooner like Trent Alexander-Arnold did considering he hardly played in Russia, but can’t say we really blame him for soaking up whatever vacation he had as opposed to coming back early to fight for his position again.
The club’s official website posted a gorgeous gallery of the two resuming training at Melwood and rejoining the team in preparations for the final friendly against Torino on Tuesday. Lovren will return on Monday and from there the squad will be complete.
It’s unlikely that either Henderson or Lovren will feature on Sunday’s match against West Ham to kick off the Premier League, although with James Milner’s 15 stitches potentially keeping him out, Klopp might need Henderson to step up in a big way.
That doesn’t exactly scream “Ready to go, boss!” and we’d all be lucky that he didn’t get a concussion as well.
