News broke earlier that Nathaniel Clyne would be sent home for to deal with family issues and Naby Keita would miss the next training session due to a sore neck, but it looks like there are a couple more names to be penciled onto the sidelined list. The official site has now announced that both Loris Karius and Georginio Wijnaldum are both slated to miss out on today’s training session in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Like in the previous round of injury news, it appears that there isn’t much to worry about in the way of long-term issues. Karius is indicated as having to sit out due to a sore knee. Wijnaldum, meanwhile, is sitting out due to an unspecified muscle issue.
The news will no doubt be disappointing for both players and the fans who will have been excited to meet their footballing heroes. But with the start of the Premier League season a mere two weeks away, it makes sense that the club would prioritize the health of their first-team regulars and will hope that any disappointment on the part of the stateside fans will be quelled but a healthy squad fighting for all honors in the upcoming campaign.
As we stand it is still quite unbelievable that we are but two weeks from the start of Liverpool football. We’ve nearly survived the summer break without our Reds and stand on the edge of that most glorious moment where all accolades are left to fight for. Let’s get our lads through the last training session and friendly in one piece, bring them home, and bring us into that sweet moment where You’ll Never Walk Alone rings around Anfield to usher in the new campaign.
