With only one big match remaining in this edition of the World Cup, Reds across the globe can finally begin to allow the reality of next season to wash over them. Liverpool have already played a couple of friendlies, with exciting performances from Harry Wilson and the maybe-hopefully-finally-please-stay-healthy return of Daniel Sturridge among the things greeting Liverpool fans after our summer hiatus.
Among the things on tab for the pre-season is the annual pre-season tour for the club. Liverpool FC’s itinerary this year includes stops in North Carolina, New Jersey, and Michigan. The summer tour allows far-flung fans like yours truly to get a glimpse at what it’s like to cheer for this club in a stadium environment. I have incredibly warm memories of watching the likes of Ojo and Mane when I caught LFC in Pasadena two years ago and I imagine that fans with tickets to one of the three stops on this tour are going to have a great time.
And for those fans, news today only makes things better: the club have confirmed that Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Marko Grujic will be part of the squad traveling to America next week. All due respect to Marko, but the only question marks were likely Salah and Mane as they were heavily involved in their respective national teams at this year’s World Cup. Ensuring that stars like Salah, Mane, Firmino, Hendo, TAA, and Lovren are able to balance rest and getting the necessary prep work ahead of next season is key. But, of course, fans will naturally relish any opportunity to see their conquering heroes play in front of them - especially when that opportunity is generally seen as a novelty or lies outside of the financial realities of most.
It is a terrific boost, then, for the American contingent to see these names officially etched onto the travel itineraries. Cheers to all of our American Reds who are making the trip to any of the three matches next week. Hope the lads give you a few great memories to hang on to.
