While the Liverpool collective fan base is likely still buzzing after our new kit for the 2018 – 19 season was released on Thursday and the majority of the football world (I’m freaking out from excitement to be honest…) cannot wait for the UEFA Champions League semi-finals next week, this gem of a video may not have received the attention it deservedly should.
The tagline for the coming season is clear; with our gorgeous, new kit and the video of Klopp reminding us (we can be rather forgetful…) why LFC is; My club, Your club, OUR club. I have loved Liverpool since the age of 11. Irrationally at times, but it is a love that has only deepened with time and it is a love that is irrevocable and let’s face it, loving Liverpool F.C. has never been for the faint of heart! If anything, we have too much heart. One of my favourite LFC posters has the slogan, “It’s not just a football club, it’s a way of life.”
The team that Klopp has put together embodies that way of life. They play as a unit and though we can call out several incredibly outstanding individuals like our Egyptian King, Mohamed Salah, Super Sadio Mané, the effervescent Roberto Firmino, eternally reliable James Milner; we can call out every member of the first team who has featured in the starting lineup for the last few months and there’s a very good reason for that. They all play for the name on the front, they play for the shirt, they play for our football club. This feeling is new to many of us, but in many ways, it resembles the glory days of old. Although I wasn’t around when Bill Shankly or Bob Paisley were the guardians of LFC, my older LFC family will be able to share that Jürgen Klopp has a very similar aura and though their shoes are unfillable, Klopp is guiding our team, following in their footsteps…
You’ll Never Walk Alone is our anthem because it is the truth if you support Liverpool and it’s one of the reasons I love LFC the way I do. No matter where you are in the world, if you support Liverpool, you will always find a fellow LFC fan with ease and if they are true supporters, often they will become your friend or even better, your second family! Cheesy? So what!
If it doesn’t hit you right in the feels, it’s okay, that just means that you’re not a Liverpool Football Club supporter. Supporting Liverpool means more than being a fan. It always has, and now, thanks to Klopp, our mighty Reds and the precipice we find ourselves on, I know it always will.
