The season is far from over, but with Liverpool shockingly breaking the 100 goal barrier with two full months remaining in the 2017-18 campaign, the time is surely ripe for a retrospective on the glorious strikes that have defined the season to date.
There was Ragnar Klavan’s scrappy winner against Burnley and Sadio Mane’s hard-earned hat trick in the Champions League. Eviscerations of the likes of Porto, Spartak Moscow and Maribor as well as Mohamed Salah’s magnificent volley against Stoke City.
Indeed, the Egyptian winger’s quest to break the Liverpool single season scoring records set by the likes of Ian Rush and Roger Hunt have resulted in some fabulous goals: from the wriggling opener against Everton to the nearly identical, should’ve-been winner against Tottenham, the Liverpool talisman has led the line in terrifying defenses across the continent.
Record signing, Virgil Van Dijk’s winner on his debut in the Merseyside Derby stands out for sure, while Roberto Firmino’s penchant for flamboyant, lookaway goals, and his impossibly acute finish against Huddersfield can almost be compared to the elegant backheeled assist to set Salah up for a goal against Southampton.
Truly, Jurgen Klopp has assembled what is arguably the most exciting attacking side in Europe and Liverpool fans will have confidence that this most potent of forward lines in Salah, Mane and Firmino have what it takes to brush aside Jose Mourinho’s largest and most elaborate of buses.
