As we count down to the Champions League quarter final match draw, here’s how Liverpool has fared against the seven other teams that make up this season's UCL last eight.

A.S. Roma – 3rd in Serie A

Games won: 3
Games drawn: 1
Games lost: 1

Liverpool have only played against Mohamed Salah’s former club a total of five times. The two teams met for the first time at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome for the European Cup Final on 30 May 1984. After 90 minutes and extra time, the score stood at 1 – 1. Liverpool went on to win 4-2 on penalties with Phil Neal, Graeme Souness, Ian Rush and Alan Kennedy scoring in the penalty shootout. More recently, the two clubs met at Anfield for their UEFA Champions League Phase 2 group B match on 19 March 2002 which Liverpool won 2 – 1, with goals from Jari Litmanen (penalty) and Emile Heskey.

FC Barcelona – 1st in La Liga

Games won: 3
Games drawn: 3
Games lost: 2

Before they took Luis Suarez from us, Liverpool played Barcelona in the UEFA Cup Semi-final 1st leg on 30 March 1976 for the first time and won 1 – 0 with a goal from John Toshack. Our last visit to the Camp Nou ended with Liverpool winning 2 – 1 in the UEFA Champions League 1st knockout round, 1st leg on 21 February 2007 with goals from Craig Bellamy and John Arne Riise. Barcelona went on to win 1 – 0 at Anfield in the 2nd leg, but, Liverpool, having scored two vital goals at the Camp Nou, won on the away goal rule and went through to the second round.

FC Bayern Munich – 1st in Bundesliga

Games won: 2
Games drawn: 4
Games lost: 1

Before 1 August 2017’s Audi Cup Final where Liverpool won 3 – 0, Liverpool had played against the resurgent German side a total of seven times. The first time, March 10th, 1971, Liverpool won 3 – 0 in the Fairs Cup. On 24 August 2001, the seventh match, the UEFA Super Cup Final, was played at the Stade Louis II in Monaco; which Liverpool went on to win 3 – 2, with goals from John Arne Riise, Emile Heskey and Michael Owen.

Juventus F.C. – 1st in Serie A

Games won: 2
Games drawn: 1
Games lost: 3

We lost our very first match against Juventus (1 – 0) on 29 September 1965 in the first leg of the UEFA European Cup Winners Cup preliminary round, but went on to win the return leg, 2 – 0 at Anfield. The last time the two clubs met was 13 April 2005, in their UEFA Champions League Quarter-final 2nd leg match. The match at Stadio Delle Alpi in Turin, Italy ended 0 – 0, but Liverpool won 2 – 1 on aggregate and went on to win the 2005 UEFA Champions League.

Manchester City F.C. – 1st in Premier League

Games won: 102
Games drawn: 52
Games lost: 54

Liverpool played against Manchester City for the first time when City were still called Ardwick and both clubs were in League Division Two – on 16 September 1893. Liverpool are the only team to have beaten City in the Premier League this season, having won 4 – 3 in heart stopping fashion on 14 January 2018 at Anfield.

Real Madrid C.F. – 3rd in La Liga

Games won: 3
Games drawn: 0
Games lost: 2

On 27 May 1981, at the Parc des Princes in Paris, Liverpool played against Real Madrid for the first time. The match was the European Cup Final with Bob Paisley’s Liverpool winning 1 – 0 with a goal from Alan Kennedy. The next time the two clubs met was in 2009 when Liverpool knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League after winning 5 – 0 on aggregate; 1 – 0 at the Santiago Bernabeu with a goal from Yossi Benayoun on 25 February 2009 and 4 – 0 at Anfield on 10 March 2009 with goals from Fernando Torres, two from Steven Gerrard (one penalty) and Andrea Dossena. I know we would all prefer if that had been our last meeting… However, our last meeting took place on 4 November 2014 in a match to forget at the Bernabeu when Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool lost 1 – 0 and exited the Champions League at the Group Stage.

Sevilla FC – 5th in La Liga

Games won: 0
Games drawn: 2
Games lost: 1

Our history with Sevilla is a very recent but not a very pleasant one. We would all rather forget our first meeting at St Jakob Park, Basel on 18 May 2016, when Sevilla beat us 3 – 1 to become Europa League Champions for the third consecutive season. Our last meeting, on 21 November 2017 ended in a 3 – 3 draw, in a UEFA Champions League Group E match, but having been solidly winning 3-0 at half time, this one felt more like a loss.

The UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw will take place at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday 16 March at 11AM GMT/7AM EST.

I’m going on record... If we draw Juventus in the quarter finals, Saturday, 26 May 2018 at NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium, Kiev will be a night to remember forever.

Up the Reds!
