Sadio Mané was named Man of the Match on Wednesday night after his thrilling hattrick against Porto at Estadio do Dragao. Now, he has also been named the Champions League Player of the Week after 57 percent of the public voted for him.

Mané was selected above the likes of Marcelo from Real Madrid who received 29 percent of the vote, Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen who received 11 percent and Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City who received four percent of the vote.

Mané was rather pragmatic in his interview after the match against Porto, and did not get carried away despite our spot in the next round being pretty close to a sure thing and said:

I think tonight, we deserved to win. We played well and as a team from the beginning to the end but its too early to speak about the next round because we have another game and we know how football is, anything can happen. But the most important thing is we prepare for the next game and try to win and go to the next round.

The Reds are currently at their training camp in Marbella, Spain for exercise and sunshine to rejuvenate them and ensure that they are refreshed, as we head into the final months of this enthralling season.

The boys will be back on Merseyside on Sunday and we take on the Hammers at Anfield on 24 February 2018.

Exciting times lie ahead and though he was never really missing, Sadio Mané is back!
