Liverpool travel to St. Mary’s today when they face Mauricio Pellegrino’s Southampton as they look to get back to winning ways after last Sunday’s dramatic draw against Tottenham.
Liverpool’s side of things
A win for Liverpool today will make Klopp the 45th different Premier League manager to record 50 wins. Klopp will be facing a Southampton side for the ninth time since becoming Liverpool’s manager in October 2015 and has only recorded two wins against them. Liverpool have only lost one match (away to Swansea) in their last 17 (11 wins, five draws) Premier League games. Sadio Mané has scored six goals in his last five Premier League appearances at St. Mary’s Stadium but none of these were as a Liverpool player! Mané will look to get back on the score sheet today against his former club. Liverpool have failed to score in four successive matches against Southampton, including both legs of the 2016-17 League Cup semi-final.
Southampton’s form
Southampton currently find themselves hovering above the relegation zone, in 16th place. They have not scored against Liverpool in the last three League meetings between the two clubs, most recently losing 3-0 away at Anfield in November. Having ended their 12-game winless run with victory at West Bromwich Albion last week, the Saints will be looking to secure back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since April 2017. Southampton are unbeaten in their six previous Premier League games played on a Sunday this season, though five of those have ended as draws.
League head to head record
Southampton wins: 24
Draws: 21
Liverpool wins: 40
The match kicks off at 16H30PM GMT today. Here’s to an emphatic three points.
Up the Mighty Reds!
