It’s no secret that Christian Pulisic is talented. It’s no secret that his contract is winding doubt. It’s no secret that there many top-tier clubs - Liverpool among them - are rumored to be interested in acquiring the young winger’s services once said contract expires. What has been a secret, though, has been whether or not Pulisic would re-up with Borussia Dortmund or set his sights elsewhere.
Well, reports now have quotes directly from the talented American footballer that we will soon learn whether or not Pulisic will re-sign with Dortmund. According to a report from the Daily Express, the winger is looking at January to be the time he makes a decision.
“I’m still focused on Dortmund. We are doing great this season. Once the break comes [in January], that is always when I will have to discuss with Dortmund and see about my future.”
Pulisic will certainly have a lot on his mind when making this decision. As he notes, Dortmund are doing well in the Bundesliga this year, currently perched at the top of the league and seven points clear of second place Borussia Monchengladbach. So far, Pulisic has appeared in 4 of Dortmund’s 11 Bundesliga matches and has notched 1 goal and 2 assists. It’s a small sample size, but his current rate of production actually is an uptick over his previous seasons at Dortmund, currently standing at a shade over .70 goals+assists per 90 minutes.
While Pulisic is clearly a talent and one that certainly turns some heads, it still remains unclear as to whether any purported interest from Liverpool is real. There are the obvious links to Jurgen Klopp, who managed the side when Pulisic joined the club and who tried to sign him during his first summer transfer window in August of 2016. But leaks from the LFC offices have been sparse and absent hard information, we only have conjecture.
So, all eyes on January, then, for any fans existing in the middle space of the Venn diagram between Liverpool fans and Christian Pulisic fans. One step closer to the dream move for that group of supporters.
