Well that went alright, didn’t it?

Liverpool were totally dominant in the 4-0 win at home to Red Star. Quality of the opposition aside, it’s hard to find a single fault in this performance. Just about everyone played well. Fabinho came into the side and shone like he’d been here for decades, while Xherdan Shaqiri again showed his ability to offer something different. A truly delightful win from the reds.

Mohamed Salah scored two and was unsurprisingly pleased with the way things went.

“It was an important game”, the Egyptian winger told BT Sport, as reported by BBC Sport. “We knew the game was going to be tough. The most important thing was the three points.

“It’s great - I’m happy to score my 50th goal for Liverpool. We know how to play with each other and know our qualities.”

With so much to be pleased about it, there were similar positive comments from Virgil van Dijk. The captain for the night had no doubts over which side were the better team.

“They are in the Champions League for a reason”, Van Dijk told BT Sport. “They had a bit of quality from set-pieces. At the beginning of the game there was a lot of chaos. After 20 minutes we controlled the game.

”We need to look at ourselves and win every game that we play especially at home. It’ll be a difficult game over there. We have to look forward to those challenges.”

”Fabinho won a lot of balls and made some great passes - very happy for him. All the players worked hard tonight. I’m very happy we kept a clean sheet and scored some goals.”

After a run of solid results but unimpressive performances, it was great to see Liverpool looking so dominant again. When this side are at their fluent best, they are a match for almost no one. Same again, please.
