John Arne Riise was fortunate to have played with more than a few bona fide Liverpool legends in his time at Anfield. The left back won Champions League, FA Cup and Super Cup honors among others in his seven trophy-strewn seasons at the club and has remained a fan favorite long after his departure.

Being that he won the treble in his first season at the club to kick off a series of cup triumphs, picking the 11 best players he played with was always going to be a difficult task; nonetheless, the Norwegian gamely gave it a shot in an interview with Sport360.

"It's a very difficult question,” Riise, who recently retired at the end of the 2016 season, admitted in the interview. "But my favourite 11 has to be. Reina, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Riise.

“Then a diamond in middle. Mascherano holding. Gerrard and Alonso next to him with Luis Garcia behind Torres and Owen. Hopefully I didn’t forget anybody."

It serves as a reminder of the shocking amount of talent that has blessed Anfield in the not too distant past. With the likes of Naby Keïta and—inevitably—Virgil Van Dijk soon joining Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah as the Jürgen Klopp revolution marches the storied club back onto the European stage, the hope will be that the exploits of those legendary Liverpool sides of yesterday will soon be within reach.
