When Liverpool have been able to play both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah (and, eh-hem, keep both on the pitch), the attack has been absolutely fearsome. The former Roma man, in particular, has been practically unmarkable.
However, Salah left training early yesterday ahead of the Champions League Group Stage opener against Sevilla, complaining of a sore throat.
“Mo, we sent him home tonight,” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained.
“He was in and the doc told me Mo Salah can train, but what would be best for him is if he doesn’t have to. He has a little bit of a sore throat. Shouldn’t be too serious.
“We expect him back for normal training tomorrow morning.”
Hopefully the pacy Egyptian just needed a bit of rest, and will be good to go tonight. Otherwise, Liverpool will have to do what they failed to do against Manchester City: prove that they have an alternate plan of attack without Mane and/or Salah.
Regardless of Salah’s status for tonight, Mane will be well rested after his unexpected early departure against City. Klopp will also have the options of brining in either Philippe Coutinho and/or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain into the attacking band until Salah recovers from his illness.
