Contrary to the promises of a £175 million splurge to secure the likes of Thomas Lemar and Virgil Van Dijk, Deadline Day came and went with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s £35 million move being Liverpool’s final act of the silly season.

While the inaction was disappointing given that the only unaddressed need at center back was clearly the most important one going into the summer, Chamberlain as reinforcement in both the center of the park and on the wing has been at least one positive.
The 24-year-old was unveiled while on international duty but was able to send a short video address to Liverpool fans:
It marks the break up of the Arsenal’s famed British quintet, including Aaron Ramsey, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson and Jack Wilshere that have been a constant presence in the side since they all signed on around the same time between 2011 and 2012. Ramsey paid tribute to his former teammate in a Instagram post earlier:
Another of our British boys heading on to new things. Not only have we lost a great player we've lost a great guy in the changing room and It is sad to see you go mate. Had some great memories over the years playing along side you and I wish you all the best with this new chapter in your life #theOX #shaaambles
Whatever. Either way, it’s finally all over. We all have about a week to detox from this transfer madness, get back to the business, and see what this kid can do.
