It may just be the pre-season, but the Audi Cup has brought with it the opportunity for Liverpool to face off against top level opposition in back-to-back games—and on back-to-back days. Yesterday, they looked dominant at times as they put three past Bayern Munich and kept a clean sheet. Today, they get another tough test when as face off against Atletico Madrid. The reward, being named Audi Cup champions, may not count for a whole lot, but the game and opponent is about as good as pre-season gets and provides another chance to measure the side’s progress.

There will be questions, though, about what kind of lineup Jürgen Klopp will run out today given the game will kick off just 24 hours after the last one, which saw a starting eleven not too dissimilar from what many expect the manager to send out against Watford in ten days. Twenty-four hours on, will many of those same players start again—perhaps with a few changes, like Andrew Robertson coming in at left back and Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana in midfield—or will it be a wholly changed eleven to kick off the night? There will be similar questions about their opponents—as well as hope that things don’t get as heated as in yesterday’s match between Atletico and Napoli.
