I hope the lads are more up for this one than I am. Unlike yours truly, Liverpool will have to bounce back from the disappointing late equalizer and look past the transfer season blues if they want to bring a positive result back to Merseyside. As a European home-and-away playoff, away goals provide a crucial tie-breaker. If Liverpool’s front three, including Hoffenheim old boy Roberto Firmino, can repeat their opening salvo of one goal a piece from the weekend, it would go a long way toward advancing toward the Champions League proper. But, you know, not shipping three goals would also be nice. It will be a challenging 180 minutes of football, but necessary if Liverpool want to compete against Europe’s best plus Manchester United.
