With many of Liverpool’s biggest stars sitting out the first preseason match for a variety of reasons, eyes turned to the yutes to see who might feature in Jurgen Klopp’s plans going forward.
In the first half Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sheyi Ojo, and Marko Grujic impressed. In the second, the man of the half was former Chelsea starlet Dominic Solanke.
Solanke did not take long to make an impact. In the 50th minute, with the Reds already in front 2-0 thanks to a James Milner penalty and a Grujic wonderstrike, Solanke did well to control a hard, bouncing pass into the box from Ryan Kent, and fire off a left-footed effort to test the keeper. The Tranmere keeper made the initial save, but the rebound was fired home by Pedro Chirivella.
The 19-year-old striker would remain a constant threat throughout the half by testing defenders with smart runs, decent link-up play, and fair bit of trickery. Despite the fact that he did not end up on the score sheet, it was a tasty first view of this exciting, young talent. You can watch an every-touch compilation below.
