The Liverpool world is alight with the signing of their first big player of the summer: Mohamed Salah from AS Roma. Jürgen Klopp has obviously come out to praise his new number 11, and the consensus seems to be that Liverpool broke their transfer fee record on a worthy acquisition.

Another important voice that can be added to the choir of praise for the Egypt international is vice-captain James Milner.

Speaking to the official website, he said, “Everyone mucks in and we’ve got great team spirit. Everyone gets on the front foot and gets the press; it only takes one person not to do it for it to break down.

“He’ll fit into that really well, with and without the ball. He’s very dangerous with it and causes a lot of problems. And without it, that’s so important the way we play.

“Looking at his stats and things like that, he has had a good season. He is a dangerous player and someone who is going to do really well for us, I’m sure.”

Milner also welcomes the addition of top players to the squad in anticipation of Liverpool’s difficult season ahead, claiming that the competition for places will be good for everyone.

“Liverpool is a top club, we’re a good squad of players and you’re going to attract top players. That’s what you want – the best players in and around the squad to push each other,” he added.

“The bigger the squad of top players you have, the more successful you’re going to be. The competition for places is exactly what you need all over the field.”

Salah is only one player, and while bringing his significant talents to Anfield is a good start, the Reds still have a long way to go to provide the kind of depth they need to successfully compete across four fronts. Still, the summer transfer window has yet to even officially open, and Liverpool have been linked with any number of exciting names. With luck, Salah will be the first of several impressive new players in key positions to add to Liverpool’s roster.
