Rumour Mongering: Is Salah-To-Liverpool A Done Deal?

A major news outlet for Egyptian football seems to think so!

Take this with a sizable chunk of salt, but there are Rumblings that Liverpool’s pursuit of Mohamed Salah is about to have a happy ending.

This news comes from KingFut, a leading source for news on Egyptian football. Per their sources, Liverpool and AS Roma have agreed to terms on a transfer. They also claim that Salah will be heading to Liverpool on Tuesday for his medical evaluation. (And, presumably, to do his first round of PR materials and lean against something at Melwood.)

When we last checked in on the Salah Saga— or Salahga, if you will— the word on the street was that a meeting between Liverpool reps and Ramy Abbas (Salah’s agent) took place in England over the weekend. Liverpool had reportedly offered around £28.5 million, noticeably less than Roma’s £35-40 million valuation. After that offer was rejected, the Reds apparently bumped their bid a few million quid north to something close to Roma’s asking price.

If the report from KingFut is to be believed, it appears that those negotiations bore fruit and Roma has accepted an offer from Liverpool.

Salah, who turned 25 this week, is coming off a career year with Roma. With 19 goals in all competitions for the Serie A cruiserweights, it’s frankly a little surprising that Liverpool emerged as Salah’s only serious suitors. Still, it works out just fine for us, if these reports are true.

As with the vast majority of transfer rumours, a healthy dose of skepticism is in order. Still, it’s entirely possible that by sometime in midweek Mohamed Salah will be photographed awkwardly leaning against a wall and saying nice things about Steve Heighway.
