Last season, Liverpool just about scraped by into the top four, which gets them into the Champions League. A big key to their success in the last campaign was Liverpool’s record against their fellow top six teams. They managed not to lose in any of the ten games against Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, and Chelsea, with five wins and five draws.
And while, on the other hand, their performances against the teams below them is what made their quest for the top four such a perilous journey, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes the Reds’ positive results have set them on the right path.
“We’ve got a fantastic manager at the helm. I think Liverpool are very, very close,” he said.
“If you look at the statistics in the top six, they’re the best team in terms of head-to-head.
“Liverpool know where they need to improve and it’s the consistency against the teams that are maybe in the bottom half of the table, the teams that sit narrow and compact and are difficult to break down.
“Hopefully we can get the two or three pieces of the jigsaw that are missing. I’m really confident Liverpool can keep moving forward and success can be just round the corner.”
With the official start to the summer transfer window less than two weeks away, we’ll soon see what pieces to the jigsaw puzzle Klopp brings in to help keep Liverpool moving forward.
