With less than two weeks until the General Election in the UK, politicians up and down the country can’t afford to take any time off. Not even for football.

On what would’ve otherwise been a huge day for him, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn had to make FA Cup Final day into a working holiday. The lifelong Arsenal fan got to watch his side claim their 13th FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Chelsea.

In the run-up to the game, Corbyn hopped on Twitter to share inspirational and politically-motivating quotes from some of football’s great luminaries. Including, naturally, legendary Liverpool boss (and avowed socialist) Bill Shankly.

Corbyn also quoted the likes of Brian Clough, Sócrates, and, unsurprisingly, Arsène Wenger.

The PM hopeful also announced a new policy proposal if Labour are swept into power next month— a renewed commitment to growing grassroots football.

Whatever happens on June 8th, at least Corbyn managed to have a decent day yesterday.
