Alright, Reds. This is it.
I don’t need to tell you how important today is. You know already.
It’s possible you didn’t get much sleep last night. Or you chewed your fingernails off. Maybe you can’t sit for more than a minute or so. Maybe you just don’t quite know what to do with your hands.
I know. Believe me, I know.
I’m not going to tell you how to cope with the overwhelming anxiety you undoubtedly feel right now in the run-up to kickoff between Liverpool and Middlesbrough, with Champions League football on the line. Everyone’s different. I don’t know how you deal with stress and worry.
I just know that, speaking purely for myself, it helps to try and cleanse the palette and put it out of my mind. Not for long. Just a few moments. A quick breather. An interlude of self-care.
So I’m going to put together a post of things to help take your mind off the game for a few minutes. Maybe it will help, maybe it won’t. If nothing else, you have a collection of nice and calming things. Maybe you can bookmark this for another time.
Here we go.
Scenes from a beach.
Sitting in a car while it rains outside.
A polar icebreaker ship at night.
How about some coffeeshop jazz?
Do you like Star Trek? Here are some ambient sounds from the Enterprise D.
Let’s move on to cute things. Here’s a Newfie getting tummy rubs.
Here’s a kitty and a bunny cuddling together.
A mama fox feeding her babies.
Lots of puppies, one tiny human.
Let’s do some fun lectures. Here’s Jill Boyte Taylor’s famous TED Talk about the brain.
John Green on how and why we make things.
Neil Gaiman’s famous “Make Good Art” speech.
And a bit of a tearjerker: Randy Pausch’s “Last Lecture.”
Here’s a song I really like.
For a quick laugh: a generic Oscar-bait movie trailer.
And to bring it back to Liverpool, here’s a montage of footage featuring Bill Shankly.
Finally, that famous rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone from last season’s epic clash with Borussia Dortmund.
I hope this post helped a little. Up the Mighty Effing Reds.
