This entire weekend has been a bit of a cautiously optimistic blur. Manchesters City and United ended their Sunday games with a point apiece, and Arsenal dropped points against Tottenham. Liverpool are still sitting in third place (albeit thanks to goal differentials alone) as they prepare to take on Watford on Monday night.
Jürgen Klopp is focused completely on the game ahead, and believes the Reds are more than ready for the challenge. He’s also not too worried about a repeat of last season’s visit to Vicarage Road which ended in a 3-0 defeat for Liverpool.
“Watford are different since then – different manager, different players – and we are different since then too. You can’t compare,” Klopp said about what to expect on Monday. “It’s not about the place, Watford, but they are a physical team with a lot of tall players so we have to deal with throw-ins and all that stuff.”
After a rough defensive performance against Crystal Palace, Klopp is aware of where the Reds will have to focus their attention.
“If you let them build up play then they are around your box, that’s how it is, with deep defending too. We know about [how to deal with this type of football]. We have had a lot of physical games in the last few weeks with a lot of challenges and we know we need to be ready for this game. That’s what we will try to do.”
The theory seems sound. Here’s hoping it’s an easy one to put into practice.
