It wasn’t a rainy Wednesday night at Stoke, but it was still Stoke. They’re a tough team to break down under normal circumstances, but with Liverpool struggling to get the job done against teams from below the Top 6 and still tired (and maybe demoralized) from the home draw against Bournemouth, today’s clash at Stoke-On-Trent looked to be a trap for the Reds. And indeed, and Jonathan Walters struck right before halftime it looked to be that kind of day.
But the Mighty Mighty Reds refused to take it lying down. Having come on as substitutes at the start of the second half, Liverpool’s dynamic duo of Brazilian attackers saved the day. Philippe Coutinho leveled the score in the 70th minute and Roberto Firmino won the day with a blistering shot just two minutes later. With their Champions League push in real trouble, the Reds came through to secure all three points and, importantly, belief.
I could (and often do, if you read my match recaps here) ramble on about the Mighty Mighty Reds. But maybe I should just let the players speak for themselves.
