Robbie Fowler Will Likely Not Be Headed To The A-League

Discussions over him taking over as manager of Newcastle Jets have come to an end

God has turned his gaze away from Australia.

After expressing interest in the manager gig at Newcastle Jets, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has taken himself out of the running.

Newcastle sacked Mark Jones earlier this month. Fowler, who had played in Australia toward the end of his career with North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory, expressed interest in the Newcastle position recently and was considered a strong candidate for the job.

But Fowler talked to the club and decided that it wasn’t a good fit.

“After much thought, I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the Newcastle Jets job. It’s well known that I would love the opportunity to manage in the A-League, but at this present time I feel the club’s aspirations are well below my own.”

In the meantime, Fowler has indicated that he really wants a shot in management and is pursuing a UEFA Pro license. So while the Newcastle Jets job didn’t work out, don’t be surprised to see Fowler riding the touchline sooner rather than later. For, uh, less controversial reasons this time.
