While the Liverpool team is down in Tenerife for the international break, Anfield will be hosting a charity match between greats from Liverpool and Real Madrid to benefit the Liverpool FC Foundation this Saturday.
Liverpool’s side will feature the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Robbie Fowler, Luis Garcia, and Steve McManaman, while Real Madrid’s side is likely to include Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, and Emilio Butrageno, amongst others.
The game itself will be an entertaining one, but the lead-up to it is providing some great material as well.
Steven Gerrard, for example, has proven he’s got as powerful a shot now as he did when he still played for Liverpool. In preparation for the game on Saturday, Liverpool hosted a 5 shot challenge with Gerrard, Steve McManaman, Gary McAllister, and Alan Kennedy.
The goal (heh) was for all four former Reds to beat the keeper with each of their five shots. They received one point if they forced the keeper to make a save, two if they scored a goal, and three if they had a shot that was “impossible” to save.
Gerrard had a couple of those.
