Liverpool’s run at one of the coveted Top 4 Champions League qualification spots is still up in the air, but as the season winds down there’s no doubting that these Reds always got up for the big games.
With the matches against this year’s Top 6 sides all behind us, Liverpool went undefeated, recording 20 points with 5 wins and 5 draws. In those 10 matches, Liverpool scored 16 goals, while only conceding 9 (3 of which were against Arsenal on that raucous opening weekend affair).
Critics will naturally point to Liverpool’s comparatively poor record against mid and lower table teams, and they’d be right to criticize this side’s apparent generosity toward teams in the relegation scrap. Regardless, if you can’t enjoy great results against the best teams in England without immediately bemoaning the poor results against the Swanseas and Burnleys of the world, I can’t help you.
This season has certainly had its ups and downs, but it should be looked back upon with more ups than downs, and hopefully Liverpool can return from international break well-rested, and ready to kick on against cross-town foe Everton.
Below is a video with all 16 goals scored against the Top 6 sides, including all three of James Milner’s ice cold (and vital!) spot kicks. Enjoy:
