I love Dirk Kuyt. The former Dutch international left Anfield nearly five years ago and is getting close to the end of his playing career, but I still miss the guy. Partly for his contributions on the pitch— 71 goals in 285 appearances and a critical role in winning the League Cup in his last season with Liverpool— but mostly because he was such a warm presence. Every team should have a Dirk Kuyt in their dressing room.
And so, while I’m usually pretty gung-ho on cute kids playing football, the fact that this video features Dirk Kuyt’s kid is wonderful on a few levels.
That’s Dirk’s son Aidan, playing in an U5 (or maybe U6) game, totally clowning several defenders before making a blistering run down the flank and shooting from a tight angle and finding the back of the net. It’s almost exactly the kind of goal his dad used to score for Liverpool.
Papa posted the video on his Instagram with the following caption:
5 years old and he loves this game already just as much as I do #proud #derby #quickboyskatwijk #Aidan #Kuyt
Happy Matchday, Reds.
