It’s not an international break? Liverpool aren’t playing this weekend? You don’t really want to hear about Mario Götze again, do you? Nah, that’s not why you’re here.
The list of celebrity Liverpool fans is long and diverse. Comedian John Oliver, Mike Myers, USWNT hero Carli Lloyd (who recently joined Manchester City Women’s team on a short term deal), Damian Lewis, and Millie Bobby Brown (the Stranger Things actress recently visited Anfield for the first time) are just some of the names that supporters can rattle off as part of their ranks. Iconic actor Samuel L. Jackson has even stepped out in support of the Reds, often tweeting his excitement when Liverpool win - nearly as reliable as a Linda Pizutti Henry tweet.
Jackson was recently asked how and when he became a Liverpool fan during a Twitter Q&A session and was kind enough to make a video in response. Like most American fans, the reason is simple - Liverpool were simply his first experience with soccer and it’s easy to fall in love when your first match is at Anfield. Jackson worked on the film Formula 51 in Liverpool back in 2000 and was treated to his very first match during filming. The actor has since been back to the city for visits and been vocal about “his first loyalty.”

His joyous tweets whenever Liverpool win are oftentimes the icing on the cake, and we can only hope his loyalties stick for as long as possible - even when we lose.
