Liverpool U23 continued their winning streak this weekend when they won 6-2 against Huddersfield and Trent Alexander-Arnold did not get a red card despite trying to punch his way into one late into the game.
Captain Harry Wilson and consistent-key-role-player Ben Woodburn both scored two goals apiece, with Sheyi Ojo and Matty Virtue adding another each just because they could. Oli Dyson scored Huddersfield’s only two goals.
Woodburn was easily the stand-out player during the game. He scored the first goal in the ninth minute from a perfectly timed pass by Wilson, set up the second perfectly for Virtue to backheel into the net, and provided the assist on the third (and Wilson’s first of the game). He also managed to net the final goal of the game: a gorgeous show of his control and power
The other player who stood out unfortunately did so for the wrong reasons. Alexander-Arnold had a solid performance, providing the through ball for Virtue’s goal and the assist on Ojo’s, but late into the second half, he came to blows with Huddersfield’s Jamie Spencer. Spencer appears to have thrown the first punch, but Alexander-Arnold quickly responded, and it appears to be sheer luck that Spencer was the only person to receive a red card.
Hopefully, Liverpool U23’s luck continues to hold as well as their winning streak has.
