Brad Jones spent five years at Liverpool between 2010 and 2015. The Australia international didn’t get many starts but he was still a reliable presence in the squad. After his eventual release, he bummed around for the better part of a year before ending up at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
In November 2011, while still at Liverpool, Jones lost his infant son to leukemia. It’s always a tragedy when a parent loses their child, but the age when young Luca died makes what Jones went through nearly unspeakable.
Saturday marked six years since Luca Jones passed away. To honor their goalkeeper and his son, Feyenoord fans held up lighters and cell phone lights and sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” during the team’s home fixture vs VVV Venlo.

Nothing can ever make the pain of what Jones went through go away. But hopefully he can take comfort in knowing that a broad community of football fans stands with him and his family.
