A busy holiday run saw Liverpool rebound to end December on a high note and pushed back by a few days the chance to select the final player of the month for 2016, hopefully unencumbered by the disappointing low note the club kicked off 2017 with.
Last month, Joël Matip took top honours, joining Adam Lallana, Sadio Mané, and Philippe Coutinho as one of Liverpool’s best of the 2016-17 season as voted by readers of The Liverpool Offside. Now it’s time to decide who gets the nod for December.
Leading the way by a seemingly untouchable margin is Adam Lallana, who was voted man of the match in four of Liverpool’s six games last month. Against West Ham, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, and finally Manchester City, Lallana came out on top.
Only Ragnar Klavan took top honours from Lallana in a game Liverpool took points from, earning the nod against Everton ahead of goalscoring hero Sadio Mané. Gini Wijnaldum was voted best of the bunch in the defeat to Bournemouth.
In truth, there only seems one winner, but the final decision is yours. Awarding five points for first through to one for finishing fifth in voting, the contenders are Lallana (20 points), Klavan (12), Mané (12), Divock Origi (10), Wijnaldum (9), and James Milner (6).
