Last summer, Liverpool showed interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud before turning to other options.
Then just 20 years old, he’d already flashed the potential to be a world class central player with enough energy to gel in a Jürgen Klopp led side. However, Mönchengladbach were unwilling to let him leave at the time.
This season, Dahoud has made 16 total appearances and continued to draw the attention of clubs around Europe. In fact, his impressive development has become an obstacle to Liverpool’s continued pursuit of his transfer, as other top teams have moved into prime position to sign him.
The Echo reports that Barcelona have now joined the race to acquire the youngster. Whenever that happens, it’s cause for concern for all other interested teams.
Still, it’s unlikely that Dahoud will go anywhere this month. Mönchengladbach are still trying to convince him to sign a new contract, but if that fails they might offload him over the summer. Liverpool fans wanting to see him at Anfield will hope Barcelona turn their attention elsewhere between now and then.
