More than half of the January transfer window is gone, and Liverpool have yet to make a significant move. However, the club’s lack of activity is somewhat unsurprising given the way the past couple of midseason windows have gone down.
That said, there’s still time left for a signing, and on Thursday another wave of players were linked to the Reds. One of those is 19-year-old Genk winger Leon Bailey, according to the Daily Mail.
Bailey is apparently being chased by Roma, Bayer Leverkusen, Lyon, Chelsea and Everton, with Liverpool also showing interest in recent days. The transfer fee, according to the report, would be in the range of £20 million.
That’s a lot of money for someone so young and without experience in one of Europe’s top leagues. In 53 appearances for Genk, he’s notched just eight goals.
There’s a chance Bailey can turn into a high quality player at some point, but it seems too early to tell. And with so much stress from Jürgen Klopp on spending money on the right players, this seems like too much of a reach to believe.
